The Sound of Gravity

There has been a TON of hype regarding the blockbuster film, "Gravity."  This movie showcases some pretty innovative motion picture technics worthy of several Oscars.

Most of us don't realize how important sound is to movie making, yet it can really change the visual perspective. Check out this great BTS of the sound department.

In this exclusive SoundWorks Collection profile we talk with Director Alfonso Cuarón and Re-recording Mixer Skip Lievsay about the sound teams work to create a dramatic sound scape to a dark and vast outer space environment. Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and George Clooney (“Syriana”) star in “Gravity,” a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. The film was directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuarón (“Children of Men”). Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney) in command. But on a seemingly routine mission, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. “Gravity” was written by Alfonso Cuarón & Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso Cuarón and David Heyman (the “Harry Potter” films). Chris deFaria, Nikki Penny and Stephen Jones served as executive producers. The behind-the-scenes team includes multiple Oscar®-nominated director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki (“Children of Men,” “The New World”); production designer Andy Nicholson (art director “Alice in Wonderland”); editors Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger (VFX editor “Children of Men”); and costume designer Jany Temime (the “Harry Potter” films). The visual effects were handled by Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Tim Webber (“The Dark Knight”). The music was composed by Steven Price (“Attack the Block”). "Threads" Video Trilogy Story Boards

To shed some light on how it all began, here is an exceprt from the Language Room (now known as, KIONA)  website.

‘Threads’ Video Trilogy About a year ago we approached Director of Photography, Andrew Barrera, with a video idea we had for our song, “Skin & Heart & Lungs”. After several meetings and discussions, Andrew came back with a suggestion. He said, if we’re going to do this, lets do something special. He suggested a trilogy video of three different songs, each one melding into the next but each standing on its own. We knew right away that we needed strict direction to make sure we could make it all work and keep the story in line, so we brought in Director, Wes Evans and began meetings to orchestrate and plan everything.

All of a sudden, what was a simple music video, had turned into a massive undertaking involving a cast of 15, 13 crew members, more than 10 locations, 3 days of shooting and a laser focused vision to combine 3 separate songs into one cohesive story while retaining their individuality. Much more to come but below are some of the story boards. All by the talented illustrator, Miguel Coronado III. See his contact details below and stay tuned for more behind the scenes footage and interviews.

The Holy Deuce Screening

Untitled.jpg

Our Executive Producer, Shaggy Welsh is screening his first feature "The Holy Deuce" this week at his alma mater, Edinboro University. If you happen to be in the PA area, you should join in on the hilarity.

The Holy Deuce was Written and Directed by Boaz Dror and produced by Shaggy Welsh

Storyline:

The story of a hard working grad student, his two couch-dwelling friends, and the virgin-Mary-shaped-poop that appears in their toilet and eventually tears their world apart. As masses flock to their doorstep and a scatological cult begins to worship "he who left it" as a dark messiah, the 3 roommates find themselves embroiled in a holy war the likes of which has never been seen.
